Data Centers: Addressing Fredericksburg’s Cost of Living and Economic Growth

Fredericksburg’s high cost of living places significant financial strain on our residents, and it is time for a bold approach to alleviate this burden. As a candidate for City Council, my priority is to reduce the tax burden on residents while ensuring that our city remains a vibrant and sustainable place to live.
The key to achieving this balance lies in generating more revenue without increasing taxes on individuals. One often discussed possibility is the development of data centers, which has been highlighted in recent city discussions. While data centers are projected to generate substantial annual tax revenues, their development must be approached with all due diligence. This includes prioritizing environmental responsibility, carefully evaluating energy and resource impacts, and actively engaging with city residents to address their concerns and ideas.
This additional revenue, if generated responsibly, can allow us to:
- Lower property tax rates for residents.
- Invest in critical city priorities such as public safety and education.
- Enhance infrastructure while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
I believe that by fostering these partnerships while being accountable to our community and environment, we can build an economy that supports Fredericksburg’s long-term needs. Together, we can address the challenges of rising costs and create a future where all residents thrive.
